Our stay at home quarantine kit: these are the top 10 things you need for the best quarantine ever!

By Kelly Iverson

Quarantine has inspired a lot of new habits to arise. We certainly had no idea we’d be napping midday again in our late 20s! With that being said, being forced to stay at home has made us realize that it’s the little things that make quarantine bearable and, some would argue, even enjoyable.

Perfect your stay at home quarantine kit with these 10 items!

Botanic Hand Sanitzer by Amass

Did you hear about the guy who stock-piled 17,700 bottles of hand sanitizer? Yea...don't be that guy. Instead, stock up on a few bottles of Amass’s Botanic Hand Sanitizer! This cruelty-free, vegan hand sanitizer only takes an estimated two to three days to ship, so you can buy on the fly and be res-assured it’ll be sanitizing your hands in no time at all!

This sanitizer has notes of eucalyptus, cinnamon, and clove in it, making it the most delightfully aromatic sanitizer we’ve ever smelt (no flash-backs of handles of Barton’s here). It is made up of 70 percent alcohol, hydrating aloe, and is small enough to throw in your purse and brave the grocery (or liquor) store. Stay sane and sanitized with Amass!

Self Love Club Candle by Evil Queen

In addition to a book club, how many of you have joined the Self Love Club?! Okay, so this isn’t actually a thing, but it totally should be. It is so easy to get caught up the craziest that is society ATM, especially when a global pandemic has the whole world under siege. Take a deep breath and inhale the sweet scene of Evil Queen’s Self Love Club candle, featuring bergamot musk and lavender!

Rising Strong By Brene Brown

To be honest, any book by Brene Brown is an acceptable read during quarantine! Brown is a professor, lecturer, author, podcast host, and low-key our personal hero. Her books cover a range of topics that straight up speak to our soul, including shame, guilt, and vulnerability. COVID-19 has a lot of us struggling and on the edge of our seats as our life plays out before us without much control over it - allow Brown and her words of wisdom to provide you with some comfort, even if only for a few pages or two each day.

Check out a list of her books here, at Thriftbooks! This is where we get all of our reads - normally second-hand and for less than half the price!

Not feeling nonfiction? Check out a few of our fiction favorites:

  • Dancer by Colum McCann (a must-read if you are a dancer)
  • Diary by Chuck Palahniuk (holy mind f**k)

Wiccy Magic Muscles by Lush

Ever wondered what it was like to lotion up with a product infused with pure magic? Look no further than Lush’s Wiccy Magic Muscles. We’ve been a huge fan of Lush for a while now - we first discovered them on holiday to Carmel, California many years ago. We would treat ourselves to a bar of their delicious soap and wait for the next year to return once again for their delightfully smelling products. This is no longer the case because A., I live in California now and B., I can get this bar shipped straight to my house!

This bar is pure luxury, and it’s no wonder it is one of their best selling products. The bar is made up of a tantalizing combination of peppermint and cinnamon oils mixed with jojoba and coconut oils with cocoa and shea butter. It’s vegan, comes in plastic-free packaging, and abides by Lush’s incredible ethos. This is the perfect lotion to rub on sore muscles after partaking in an at-home yoga class!

Instant Coffee By Waka Coffee

Not too long ago, coffee connoisseurs would’ve been horrified *gasp* if you told them you enjoyed instant coffee. Not anymore, thanks to the instant coffee trend that has gone viral. Join in on the famous fun by purchasing some of Waka Coffee’s instant coffee, including:

  • Medium Roast Colombian Single-Serve Instance Coffee
  • Indian Light roast Instant Coffee
  • Colombian Decaffeinated Instant Coffee
  • Kenyan Black Insta Tea
  • Japanese Match

Waka Coffee beans are 100 percent Arabica and freeze-dried to preserve their powerful taste, and best of all, a portion of their proceeds are donated to support clean drinking water initiatives. We asked David Kovalevksi, founder of Waka Coffee, if he had any tips for those of us going a bit stir-crazy during the quarantine. Here is his advice!

"My biggest tip for those of us in quarantine is to make sure we take care of our mental health,” Kovalevksi said. “Unfortunately, during this time it is so easy to fall into depression, work around the clock while distancing ourselves from others, and just forget that our mind and bodies have to be taken care of as well. I try to take 2-3 minutes a day to meditate and it really helps me go through the day. I also make sure to take regular food and coffee breaks while working from home to create a new "normal schedule" for myself, which has helped me as well.”

Waka Coffee is a fellow startup in Los Angeles, and Kovalevksi started Waka Coffee with a mission to help more people experience coffee in an easier way, no matter where they are. This online coffee business tastes like that over-priced boujee slow drip we are embarrassed to admit we love but without all the hassle of making (and paying too much for) it!

Wholesome Culture Cookbook by Wholesome Culture

We are the first to admit that we are no Gordon Ramsey, but Wholesome Culture’s Cookbook makes even the newest of wanna-be chefs look semi-decent. The recipes in this book are broken up into three sections - easy, medium, and don’t even try it Kelly (aka hard AF, at least to me). I’ve tried more than a handful of recipes from this cookbook, and each time I am delighted with the healthy and delicious outcome! All of the recipes are vegan, as well, so you can feel good about your cruelty-free meal!

Check out our honorable mentions for cookbooks we love!

Streaming service aka Netflix

What a sad quarantine it would be if Netflix wasn’t a thing! Netflix has become a shining light during otherwise dark times - it’s given families to come together in the evenings and us a reason to take a break from tie-dyeing once in a while! In an effort to keep us entertained and #alonetogether, they’ve even launched Netflix House Party, which to be honest, we really don’t get. But hey, it’s the thought that counts!

We’re currently binging:

  • Dead to Me (season 2)
  • Wako
  • Grey’s Anatomy

Lots and lots of wine by...whoever lol we’re not picky!

It’s time to pick your poison in case of an emergency! Whether your go-to liquor of choice is tequila, beer, or wine (I’m more of a cabernet gal myself), be sure to have a few bottles on-hand should shit (continue to) hit the fan.

Our go-to wine these ‘tine days have been really any bottle of dry red featuring cool artwork. We find inspiration from pretty much everywhere, including our alcoholic beverages.

A friendly reminder to always drink responsibly - and don’t text your ex!
